The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Agency Priority Goal for 2018 is to reduce trenching and excavation hazards. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows excavation and trench-related fatalities in 2016 were nearly double the average of the previous five years.

As part of OSHA's plan, the association will issue public service announcements, support the 2018 Trench Safety Stand Down, update online resources and work with other industry associations and public utility companies to create effective public-private efforts to help save lives.
