Iowa DOT Plan Would Guide State Highway Construction for Next 5 Years

State would invest more than $1.3 billion update and maintain existing infrastructure and bridges across Iowa

The Iowa Transportation Commission, the policymaking arm of the Iowa Department of Transportation, is considering a draft of a $2.6 billion plan that would guide the state's highway construction program for the next five years.

More than half of the money in the plan would be put towards upgrading the existing infrastructure across the state. However, until a long-term federal highway funding plan is put in place, the state will have to proceed cautiously and adjust future investments as needed if funding levels change.

The Iowa Transportation Commission is scheduled to consider this new five-year plan on June 12.
