Construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge is kicking into high gear now that the weather is improving and two redesigned concrete plants are mixing and pouring concrete. While there were only 150 craft workers on site in February 2015, a spokeswoman for Tappan Zee Constructors expects there will be more than 400 workers by mid-April and hundreds more during peak summer construction. With ramp up of construction, the first sections of road deck should be in place by the end of the year. The first span of the bridge is scheduled to open in December 2016 with full project completion expected in April 2018.
