Indiana University Health’s $1 billion Project Could Spur Housing Boom in Indianapolis

The $1 billion project will consolidate the Methodist and University hospitals’ adult services into one academic medical campus

Indiana University Health’s $1 billion plan to expand the Methodist Hospital at Capitol Avenue and West 16th Street in downtown Indianapolis calls for a 500,000-sq.-ft. ambulatory care building and 350,000-sq.-ft. high-acute bed tower that together could house a total of 600 to 800 beds. The project will also include a 250,000-sq.-ft. education building, a 250,000-sq.-ft. faculty office facility and a 100,000-sq.-ft. research building. The design phase is expected to begin later this year, with construction starting in 2017 and lasting through 2022.

The massive project could bring much-needed redevelopment to the neighborhood, including residential housing, as expansion progresses.
