Harris County Commissioners gave the green light to a $10.5 million renovation plan for mixed-use development of the Houston Astrodome. It's the first phase of a $105 million proposal.

The revitalization consists of raising the floor two levels and creating a 1,400-spot parking garage underneath, which is believed to make the former sports venue -- declared unfit of occupancy in 2009 -- a suitable location for conferences and festivals.
