DICA's SteelTech Dunnage System is designed specifically for concrete pump operators. This product utilizes the properties of steel and DICA’s engineered thermoplastic material for stability and load distribution performance to reduce ground-bearing pressures to acceptable levels.

The interlocking design consists of eight parts that can be stored, deployed and retrieved by a single person.

The SteelTech Dunnage System is made up of three SafetyTech Outrigger base pads, four steel tubes and is topped with a SafetyTech pad with an integrated steel plate and recessed radius to keep the outrigger float in place. The steel tubes fit into machined grooves in the SafetyTech base pads. The top pad interlocks with the steel tubes to prevent movement.

Working in unison, these materials and features are optimized to create a portable solution for everyday use.

“Concrete pump operators are often working alone in situations where risk levels are high. In addition, the outrigger floats on concrete pump trucks are extremely small, which concentrates pressures and makes distributing the load more difficult. Our goal was to develop an optimized system that provides the needed stability, load distribution and overall performance that can be easily stored and doesn’t require additional equipment to set up,” said Kris Koberg, CEO of DICA.

SteelTech systems are available in two sizes. The 13.5-sq.-ft. version has a rated capacity of 60,000 lbs. and is designed for concrete pumps up to 49 m. The 18.3-sq.-ft. system is rated for 110,000 lbs. and concrete pump trucks up to 70 m. Both configurations are designed for outrigger floats up to 18 in. in diameter.

Improved Load Distribution & Lighter Weight

Longer steel tubes expand bearing area and angled edges reduce the overall weight of the system. The updated SteelTech Dunnage System maintains its interlocking design while offering even greater stability and load distribution performance for concrete pump operators. By extending the steel tubes, the system ensures an increased bearing area for better ground pressure distribution. Meanwhile, the angled edges make the system lighter and easier to handle, improving overall efficiency without compromising strength or durability.

“Customer feedback is integral to DICA’s product development process,” said Koberg. “Operators told us they wanted a system with a larger bearing area but without added bulk. These updates address those needs while continuing to deliver the performance and reliability customers expect from DICA products.”

The SteelTech Dunnage System remains a portable, long-lasting solution that concrete pump operators can deploy and retrieve when working alone. The system features three SafetyTech Outrigger base pads, four steel tubes, and a SafetyTech top pad with an integrated steel plate. The interlocking design ensures stability, with machined grooves and recessed radii securing each component to prevent movement during use.

The enhanced system is available in two configurations:

  • 13.5 square foot system: Rated for 60,000 lbs., designed for concrete pumps up to 49 meters.
  • 18 square foot system: Rated for 110,000 lbs., designed for concrete pump trucks up to 70 meters.

Both configurations are designed for outrigger floats up to 18 inches in diameter, ensuring versatility across a wide range of applications.
