ASCC's Position Statement on Managing Concrete Projects

Calling for early investment in project design to manage the material supply chain, the American Society of Concrete Contractors has published its 45th Position Statement.

Clarifying the concrete contractors' point of view for architects, engineers, owners, and more, the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) Position Statement #45 addresses the material supply chain and project design in “Managing Concrete Projects: Concrete/Steel Price and Delivery Volatility Risks.”

The ASCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of those who build with concrete, and to providing them a unified voice in the construction industry. Members include concrete contracting firms, manufacturers, suppliers and others interested in the concrete industry, such as architects, specifiers and engineers.

More on Position Statements

ASCC Position Statements Offer Contractor Backup - The ASCC Position Statements offer contractors a valuable resource for clarifying contradictory or obsolete specifications on topics such as concrete slab curling, cleaning reinforcement, free fall of concrete, location of welded-wire fabric in the slab and more.

What Does Position Statement #45 Cover?

Position Statement #45 explains that the recent unpredictable market fluctuation and supply shortages for materials are beyond the contractor’s control, making it difficult to maintain the costs and schedules anticipated at bid time.

The Position Statement calls for early involvement in project design for the concrete contractor and their suppliers to best manage the material supply chain. “Early collaboration can maximize benefits to the owner,” says ASCC technical director Bruce Suprenant, “and help minimize project risk.”

The previous position statement was published in 2019. “Measuring Air Content in Non-Air-Entrained Concrete" discussed air content in mix design and how often they are specified for non-air-entrained concrete.
