Version 2.0 of the Simlog Hydraulic Excavator Simulator, distributed by VISTA Training, takes a building block approach to training, starting with simple tasks and progressing to more complex ones. All that's required is a high-end PC with a graphics card, a flat screen and some inexpensive controls. Version 2.0 contains 40% new instructional content, including these new tasks: trench crossing using "boom jacking"; climbing and descending benches; bench loading a truck; truck spotting from a bench; and building a ramp. For each training module, the software captures data that summarizes how quickly and how carefully each jobsite task is performed.
