Using its D51-22 as a design starting point, Komatsu refined the new D61-23 crawler dozer to meet EPA Tier 4 Interim emissions regulations. The SAA6D107E-2 engine generates the same 168 hp as its predecessor, the D61-15, but combining it with new hydrostatic transmission controls reduces fuel use up to 10% in P (power) mode and 20% in E (efficiency) mode.

The Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter removes most exhaust soot using passive regeneration, minimizing active-regen events. Komatsu says its hydraulic technology actuating the variable-geometry turbocharger and an exhaust gas recirculation valve deliver better precision and longer component life because the simpler components require fewer moving parts.

Operating weights range from 39,099 lbs. to 41,138 lbs., and the new standard (EX) undercarriage lays a longer track-on-ground footprint. The D61-23 comes with rotary-bushing Parallel Link Undercarriage, which Komatsu says doubles undercarriage life compared to conventional systems.

A new power-angle/tilt blade gets a durable box structure and standard adjustable blade pitch allows the operator to adjust the aggressiveness of the cut. A simple bolt-on completing kit makes the machine ready for Topcon Plug N Play.

Turning sensitivity to operator input on Komatsu's Palm Command Control System and blade response to control movement can be adjusted easily using the in-cab monitor to match operator preferences.

Interior cab noise has been decreased to 76 dB, and heated air-ride seat is is standard equipment. The rear-view monitoring system is also standard, and can be synchronized with reverse operation.

  • Steeply hood slope and cab-forward design move operators closer to the blade
  • Standard KOMTRAX wirelessly sends machine operating information to a secure website
  • Complementary Komatsu CARE scheduled maintenance for three years or 2,000 hours
