[VIDEO] Caterpillar D5 Dozer Upgrades Performance, Productivity Technologies Compared to D6N

The Cat D5 dozer offers contractors improved performance compared to the D6N predecessor as well as a broad choice of technology features to improve productivity

The Cat D5 dozer elevates the performance of the predecessor D6N with more weight and horsepower, improved steering capability and a long list of technology offerings to help operators get more work done in less time.

A fully automatic transmission provides seamless acceleration. At 170 hp and an operating weight range of 37,875 to 42,263 lb., the new D5 dozer replaces the D6N.

The D5 features factory integrated Cat GRADE with 3D, slope assist, slope indicate and factory Attachment Ready Option. Additional technologies that help improve performance and grade quality include Blade Load Monitor, traction control and stable blade.

A completely redesigned cab offers more space, multiple seat and control adjustements, 10-in. touchscreen operator interface, High Definition rearview camera and improved visibility with 15% more cab glass area.

In terms of technology, the D5 features:

  • Factory integrated Cat GRADE with 3D
  • GRADE operator interface that works like a smart phone
  • AutoCarry to automate blade lift
  • Slope Assist
  • Slope Indicate
  • Factory Attachment Ready Option (ARO)
  • Blade Load Monitor
  • Traction Control
  • Stable Blade
  • Cat LINK telematics

The update from D6N to D5 is part of an effort to make all Cat dozer model names simpler. Over the next couple of years, the Cat dozer range will be renamed from smallest to largest – D1 to D11 – with one model per size class and no more letter modifiers like “N,” “K,” “T.”
