BASF Appoints Market Development Manager for Asphalt Polymers

CHARLOTTE, NC - BASF has appointed Steven Muncy as Market Development Manager, Asphalt Polymers, in North America. He will be based in Raleigh, NC.

In his new role, Muncy is responsible for working closely with customers and transportation agencies to develop the asphalt paving market in North America, focusing on sustainable and eco-efficient pavement preservation applications.

Muncy has worked in the asphalt industry for more than 36 years, and has a broad range of experience in sales, marketing, technical, and operations in the emulsions and hot mix industries. Prior to joining BASF, Muncy worked for Elf Asphalt and Koch Materials Company. Most recently, he worked as a private consultant within the highway industry.

A graduate of North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, Muncy is active in many industry associations. He is a member and past president (1991) of the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA), former technical director of the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association (ARRA), and a member of the International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA), Transportation Research Board (TRB), and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

The BASF dispersions business in North America includes all-acrylic, styrene-acrylic and styrene-butadiene latex products used in the manufacture or formulation of adhesives, architectural coatings, asphalt, carpet backing, nonwovens, paper and paperboard products, construction mastics, thin sets and adhesives, elastomeric roof coatings, as well as for the modification of asphalt and concrete for greater durability. Major dispersion product lines include Acronal, Acronal Optive, Butonal, Butofan, Styronal and Styrofan.
