Oregon House Passes Construction Worker Wage Protection Bill

Legislation requires a general contractor to pay wages or benefits owed to a worker by a delinquent subcontractor if a specific set of conditions is met

The Oregon House has passed House Bill 4154B which provides construction workers with additional wage theft protections, under certain circumstances. The legislation requires a general contractor to pay wages or benefits owed to a worker by a delinquent subcontractor if a specific set of conditions is met. It would also create a new process through which construction workers employed by subcontractors would be able to claim unpaid wages.

However, if a general contractor has fully paid the subcontractor then the GC would not be liable for unpaid wages and benefits of the subcontractor.

The legislation passed the House in a 31-26 vote and now goes to the Senate for consideration.
