Kenny Roy, owner of Royal Pavement Solutions, started in his family’s paving business at a young age, working in the shop, sweeping the floors during summer vacation. He progressed through the functions of the company, from working in the field to transiting into an estimating position. However, the family business was sold to a private equity group and eventually went out of business. With his skill set, Roy set out on his mission, creating his own team and opening his own pavement maintenance business, which came a reality in 2019.

“The principle that drives our company is doing whatever makes our customers happy,” said Roy. “Our roots are as a sweeping company that’s the company my grandfather started, with five sweeping trucks, he went out and cleaned trashed and parking lots. In time, the company expanded into other services, like the ones we offer today.”

Located in Islip, NY, Royal Pavement Solutions and its 17 employees primary focus on the commercial market offering paving, milling, asphalt maintenance and repair, concrete, building maintenance, sweeping and portering services.

“If we serve our customers appropriately, they don’t have to over think about different contractors for different segments of work,” said Roy. “Our goal is to bring them the most amount of value for every phone call that they place with us. Customers know they can rely on our team.”

Hiring the Right People

Roy contributes the success of the company to his employees. Some of the employees started with his grandfather’s business and Roy handpicked them to join Royal Pavement Solutions when the other business dissolved.

“Our people are one hundred percent our differentiating factor from our competition,” said Roy. “I could not put into words of how proud I am of our team. For example, Donna, our office manager has been with our family for 34 years. She has known me my whole life. That type of dedication runs deep within our company.”

As many contractors are facing labor shortage issues or high turnover in a competitive marketplace, one of Royal Pavement Solutions strengths is keeping their current employees.

“We could always use more employees to bid more jobs and help more customers,” said Roy. “However, keeping the people we’ve got has not been a problem for the company, and we pride ourselves on that factor.”

“Our entire team truly has a passion for the industry,” concluded Roy. “They are the driving force for success in the business because they are committed to continually achieving high quality work to our customers."
