The American Wind Energy Association says 13,600 megawatts of capacity was under construction across 101 projects in 24 states. The U.S. had a total of 67,870 megawatts of wind capacity by the end of the second quarter, the association said.
“With a near-record amount of wind capacity under construction, this looks to be a strong year for American wind power,” Tom Kiernan, the association’s CEO, said in a statement. “However, to create longer-term stability for the industry, the full Senate and the House of Representatives must move quickly to extend the PTC (production tax credit) and ITC (investment tax credit).”
