The Western Star 4700, the first all-new truck from Western Star in 10 years, is a Class 7-8 vocational truck that combines features of the 4900 and 6900 truck models with the shortest bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) measurement in its class: 110 ins. Western Star says the 4700 is available with the broadest range of powertrain options in a single truck model, including the Detroit Diesel DD13 engine. The in-line six-cylinder DD13 is rated from 350 to 450 hp and 1,250 to 1,650 lbs.-ft. of torque. Using Western-Star-parent-company Daimler's BlueTec Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions technology and Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS), Western Star claims the DD13 can save vocational customers up to 5% in fuel economy.
