CH2M Found in Default on Texas Toll Lane Project

Contractor has 60 days to finalize a detailed project completion schedule and put more workers on the job

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority notified contractor CH2M it considers the company in default on the $136 million contract to add toll lanes on the North MoPac Boulevard highway project.

According to the mobility authority's executive director, unless CH2M cures the default in the next 15 to 60 days with a detailed project completion schedule and more workers on the job, the company may be forced off the job.

Another option is CH2M and a surety bonding company could work together to keep the contractor and its subcontractors on the job. Or, the surety company could pay the mobility authority to money needed to complete the project and allow the authority to hire another contractor.

Construction began in January 2014 and is already three months past its original completion date.
