OSHA Will Not Issue Citations for Silica Rule Enforcement for 30 Days

OSHA compliance officers will not issue penalties to employers that demonstrate a “good faith effort” to meet the new requirements for 30 days after Sept. 23 enforcement date

While the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has started enforcing the construction silica regulation on the original September 23 deadline, the Labor Department's acting Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas Galassi said OSHA compliance officers will not issue penalties to employers demonstrating a "good faith effort" to meet the new requirements for 30 days following the original deadline. Company's not attempting to take steps to comply may receive citations.
