The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is proposing to require underground coal mine operators to equip continuous mining machines (except full-face continuous mining machines) with proximity detection systems. The proposal would strengthen protections for miners by reducing the potential for pinning, crushing, or striking accidents in underground coal mines.
