Federal Judge Rules in Favor of Tappan Zee Constructors in Labor Cost Dispute

After more than a year of disputing, a federal judge has sided with Tappan Zee Constructors allowing them to use carpenters instead of dock builder for pile cap work

A federal judge has ruled that Tappan Zee Constructors can continue to use carpenters instead of dock builders to build the pile caps for the new Tappan Zee Bridge. The ruling will save the Constructors more than $7 million in labor costs. In May 2014, an arbitrator ruled in favor of the dock builders, but recanted that decision eight days later and gave the work to the carpenters. In February 2015, U.S. District Judge Andrew Carter ruled in agreement with the arbitrator.
