VA Proposes Two Options to Fund Troubled Colorado Hospital Project

If a deal isn't reached by mid-June when the project reaches its current spending cap construction of the hospital could be shutdown yet again

The Washington Post

The Veterans Affairs Department (VA) has proposed two new funding options to help finish the overdubbed Aurora, Colo., medical center currently under construction.

The first proposal is broad spending cuts of 0.89 percent, which could produce the $625 million the projects needs. Budget cuts would not affect the mandatory benefits program but veterans medical care nationwide would lose nearly $535 million.

The second proposal is shifting funds from other construction and maintenance projects planned in other states. This option would affect as many as 44 construction projects in 24 states and up to 65 maintenance projects in 16 states. If Congress were to go with this second option there is not estimate on how long these other projects would be delayed.
