Terex stretched the wheelbase of its new five-axle FD5000 "Great Lakes" front-discharge mixer truck, unveiled at World of Concrete, to 197 in. The longer wheelbase is intended to improve weight distribution to help the truck to scale out easier when fully loaded, and improve ride quality. A new steering system takes full advantage of the 42-degree wheel cut of its Marmon-Herrington front axle to give the truck 20-percent tighter turning radius than previous models.
- New front suspension offers approximately 2.5 times more travel than the previous design
- MTU DD13 diesel offering 350-, 380- or 450-hp ratings
- 8.5-in of additional cab floor space
- New brake air system eliminates 127 parts, leaving fewer connections for potential air leaks
- A single lift-axle control module (LACM) replaces four valves per axle in previous model designs
- Comes standard with an 11-cu.-yd. drum with no cone extension
