ACI Honors Outstanding Contributions to Concrete Industry

Being recognized during the ACI 2022 Spring Convention, the American Concrete Institute has announced this year's Honorary Members, Personal Awards, Service Awards, and ACI Foundation Awards.

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) is pleased to recognize several professionals, groups, and companies for their outstanding contributions and dedication to ACI and the concrete industry. The 2022 honorees include the induction of Honorary Members, ACI’s highest honor, which recognizes persons of eminence in the field of the Institute’s interest, or one who has performed extraordinary meritorious service to the Institute. The following five individuals are inducted as Honorary Members:

  • Bev Garnant, FACI, executive director of the American Society of Concrete Contractors, and member of ACI Committees 134, Concrete Constructability; C640, Craftsman Certification; C641, Decorative Concrete Finisher Certification; and E703, Concrete Construction Practices. She is receiving honorary membership “for outstanding contributions and leadership in ACI activities and for working tirelessly to elevate the prominence of concrete contractors in concrete construction.
  • Lawrence F. Kahn, FACI, professor emeritus at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology. He is receiving honorary membership “for his outstanding leadership and technical expertise, and his contributions to ACI guidance on prestressed concrete, corrosion, and repair of concrete structures.
  • Luke M. Snell, concrete consultant and emeritus professor of engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Edwardsville, IL. He is receiving honorary membership “for his dedication to the educational mission of ACI, his service to seminar programs of ACI Chapters and international organizations, and his work with K-12 and university student competitions that encourage the next generation of concrete professionals.
  • Roberto Stark, FACI, president of Stark + Ortiz, S.C., a consulting firm based in Mexico City, Mexico. He is receiving Honorary Membership “for his impactful contribution to structural design globally, his notable academic influence, and his sustained engagement in technical activities in Mexico and various countries in Latin America.
  • William E. Rushing, Jr., FACI, vice president and manager of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Waldemar S. Nelson & Co. Inc., New Orleans. He is receiving Honorary Membership “for his tireless efforts and extraordinary leadership on behalf of ACI, and for his vision of expanding the outreach of ACI through chapter and international activities.

Personal Awards

ACI is also pleased to recognize 24 individuals for maintaining their membership and participating in ACI activities for at least five decades. Additionally, ACI honors 20 new Fellows for their outstanding contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management.

With a virtual option to attend, engineers, contractors, educators, manufacturers, and suppliers will convene in Orlando, Fla., to collaborate on concrete codes, specifications, and practices. Technical and educational sessions will provide attendees with the latest research, case studies, best practices, and the opportunity to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs). Select programming will also be available live or on-demand to attendees who choose to attend virtually.

Technical and educational sessions will be presented live with on-demand viewing available afterward, providing substantial opportunity to advance knowledge. The sessions will be available to those that registered for the in-person ACI Concrete Convention in Orlando or those that register for the ACI Concrete Convention’s Virtual Technical Sessions. All technical sessions will be available virtually through the convention platform and will be available for on-demand viewing after premiering live at the convention.

  • Cedric Wilson Lightweight Aggregate Concrete Award - Reid W. Castrodale
  • Strategic Advancement Award – Joseph C. Sanders
  • Walter P. Moore, Jr. Faculty Achievement Award – Cameron D. Murray
