Albedo is the measure of solar energy reflected by the Earth’s surface—the higher the albedo, the more energy reflected, and the lower the albedo, the more energy the earth's surface absorbs. According to research conducted by MIT's Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub), the use of higher albedo pavements can significantly influence climate and human health within urban areas. In the context of an increasingly urban world, CSHub seeks to understand albedo and propose ways to mitigate its more harmful effects.
