[QUOTABLE] Caterpillar Commits to Simplifying Construction-Productivity Technology

Caterpillar's Vice President of Marketing & Digital talks about the specific role the equipment maker has taken in developing technology that improves construction productivity

"If you look at a plotted line over the last 40 to 50 years, (construction) productivity improvements have been de minimis (trivial), despite the fact that we can illustrate with the tools that you can cut the time to build a road in half," says George Taylor, vice president of Caterpillar's Marketing & Digital Division. He says one of Caterpillar's current efforts focuses on making productivity-enhancing technology easier to use, "so that customers can be more competent driving (productivity improvements). And sometimes we use Jobsite Solutions today – where we actually will run an operation for a customer to give them those improvements, because we have the ability and the experience. That part of our business continues to grow as we shift into this new world. One question is, 'How do we deliver that service effectively in a broad scale?'"
