Company Plans to Use Large Scale 3D Printer to Build Affordable Housing

Austin-based ICON claims its Vulcan II 3D printer can print up to a 2,000 sq. ft. house at half the cost

ICON, and Austin-based company, is rolling out its large scale Vulcan II 3D printer with plans to use it to build affordable homes in the Austin, Texas, area. ICON claims it's Vulcan II can print up to a 2,000-square-foot house at only half the cost.

In addition, the company has also created a proprietary concrete/mortar material it calls "Lavacrete." The material has passed structural tests to deem it safe for people and resilient to a variety of conditions it may encounter.
