Drymension Group: Transforming Luxury Residential and Commercial Projects with USG

Learn how Drymension Group uses USG Fiberock® Brand Aqua-Tough™ AR Panels to revolutionize custom home construction with innovative, sustainable materials and a commitment to quality in this exclusive interview with Richard R. Routhier and Hector Pupo.

Palm Beach County, FL – one of the wealthiest suburbs in the U.S., where Drymension Group has built a business serving ultra-high-end clients and unique commercial projects. Founded over 20 years ago, Drymension has used USG products to achieve outstanding results.

Richard R. Routhier, II: My father worked for a large company in Washington, D.C., started as an apprentice, worked his way up to vice president, and started his own drywall business. He had a passion for this his whole life, and I grew up in the business. I started going to work with him at an early age and have been carrying USG buckets pretty much all my life.

In the late 90s, my father moved to Florida. He saw a market for high-end residential work, and some of the homes here were as big as commercial projects back in D.C. At the time, there weren’t many companies doing high-level drywall finishes—most were textured or knockdown finishes. Many owners from New York were used to veneer plaster, so we developed a process to match and exceed that quality.

In Florida, we deal with harsh lighting conditions that expose imperfections in drywall. My father always trusted USG products for their quality, and we’ve continued to use them. Drymension is now in its 25th year, and we’ve known Hector for about that long.

Hector Pupo: We were able to get Fiberock down here. At the time, the projects we were aiming for using Fiberock were institutions like schools and hospitals. It was unique that Drymension was interested in using it for residential applications. This was something we had not seen before, and it was very innovative.

Richard R. Routhier, II: It’s a very sturdy, reliable material that holds up well in open-air designs. Unlike traditional drywall, there’s less remediation. If it gets wet, it doesn’t lose its integrity and can be easily repaired with less cost and effort. Industry standards require some type of moisture-resistant board, but Fiberock is far superior to any other product out there.

Hector Pupo: Drymension is using Fiberock® Aqua-Tough™. They’re also using all-purpose joint compound, drywall tape, paper-faced bead—which they’ve used since day one—drywall suspension, and molding plastering. That’s a pretty good range of products all around.

Hector Pupo: I see Drymension growing even more. A lot of people are moving south from New York and the Northeast, and many of them are very wealthy, buying up real estate and building large mansions. Many of these homes already have Drymension’s name on them because they are the go-to contractor for high-end residential projects. Over the next three to five years, this area—from Palm Beach to Miami—is going to see significant growth.

Richard R. Routhier, II: Having USG back us up really helps us stay at the top of our game.
