The Perkins team is showcasing its commitment to rental at The Rental Show in New Orleans this week with its range of quiet and reliable power solutions matched to the needs of rental companies.

“We are developing a differentiated approach to rental,” said Andy Zuckerman, Perkins global rental manager. “We understand the wants and needs of a rental company, operator and end user. It’s quite easy - it’s about buying equipment powered by Perkins engines to deliver reliability and aftersale support the rental channel demands. Next, it’s about effectively renting it and we have a variety of services and tools for rental companies to leverage. Lastly, it’s about the resale opportunity afforded to a rental company selling Perkins powered assets to maximize their return on investment.”

Buying equipment featuring a Perkins engine

“A Perkins engine is a complement to the equipment purchase, an enhancement to an OEM customer’s brand,” said Jaz Gill, Perkins vice president, global sales, marketing, service and parts. The Perkins Syncro 2.2L and 3.6L are on display at The Rental Show and represent the lower and upper ends of the Perkins Syncro engines range (1.7 - 3.6 litres). These common rail engines are designed for earthmoving equipment, air compressors, aerial work platforms and other off-highway applications.

At a lower horsepower and on display is the Perkins 403J-11. This latest version of a 3-cylinder, 1.1L platform is one of four engines that Perkins offers with 24 hp and with dual certification for both U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V.

“The choice of four engines at 24 hp means that OEMs can precisely match their machine requirements in installation design, torque, altitude performance and response,” said Oliver Lythgoe, a Perkins Product Concept Marketing Manager. “We are getting strong interest in this small engine range from some of the industry’s leading OEMs.”

1,000-hour service intervals

At The Rental Show, Perkins is showcasing its 1,000-hour service interval for light towers using the 1.1L engine. “The light tower market is moving to smaller engines as it transitions from incandescent to LED lamps,” Oliver said. “Customers are using them for long hours compared to other types of rental equipment like mini-excavators or backhoe loaders. We are very fortunate to have considerable hours on this 1.1L platform and to be able to help customers reduce maintenance costs, adding to their bottom line.”

Renting equipment featuring Perkins engines

“There is so much we can offer a rental company including the Perkins Rental Support Program (PRSP), Loyalty Program and the Perkins SmartCap, to increase uptime and maximize customer experience,” Andy said. Perkins is known for its industry-leading aftersale support. The PRSP plays a vital role, and will be a key focus for the business at this year’s show. It offers support to rental companies by providing them with the tools and training to carry out their own minor repairs and maintenance on their Perkins engines. The Perkins Loyalty Program rewards customers with points they can use to buy genuine Perkins parts, train technicians, or purchase tooling.

Smart engine management with the Perkins SmartCap The show will provide Perkins with another opportunity to showcase its breakthrough offering - the Perkins SmartCap and the associated Perkins My Engine App. The solution allows users to add telematic monitoring to any Perkins engine – mechanical and electronic – simply by replacing their normal oil cap with the Perkins SmartCap. It’s an inexpensive solution with no recurring monthly fees, the first technology of its kind ever to come to market. It’s being recognized as one of the breakthrough offerings in the industry and is a finalist for the 2018 Edison Awards.

The Debut of the Perkins Customer Experience Trailer Perkins’ new showroom on wheels makes its trade show debut at The Rental Show. It offers an ideal platform to showcase the latest Perkins compact engine lineup while also serving as a venue for technical collaboration and tailored training sessions. Best of all – it’s mobile and can appear at a variety of events throughout North America.

Resale benefits of equipment featuring Perkins engines

“There is no rental strategy without a used equipment strategy,” Andy said. “With our 97 global distributors in 182 countries and 3500 service outlets, we are there to support the rental company’s brand as well. This footprint clearly helps give owners confidence in the resale of these assets.”
