Volvo Trucks has expanded its over-the-air software update capabilities, allowing drivers to start an update, lock the truck and leave while the process runs.
The capability is available on the all-new Volvo VNL and VNR and allows software updates to systems such as engine performance, transmission and battery management without a dealership visit.
Volvo Trucks says connected trucks running the latest software experience 24% fewer unplanned stops. The company also reports that more than 80% of its connected trucks were running the latest software as of August, up from 25% six months earlier.
Volvo Trucks has more than 220,000 connected trucks in North America. Data from the vehicles is used for remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance, helping identify potential issues before they lead to unplanned downtime.
