NYC Permanently Revokes Contractor's License Amid Safety Concerns, Unpaid Fines

New York City Department of Buildings also pulling 486 work permits at 433 jobsites run by MRMD NY Corp., which owes more than $600,000 in penalties

The New York City Department of Buildings in an unprecedented move is permanently revoking the license of Brooklyn-based general contractor MRMD NY Corp. MRMD allegedly owes more than $600,000 in penalties and has the most violations of any registered general contractor in the city. The agency also plans to pull 486 work permits at 433 joists run by MRMD.

Back in November 2014, the city's buildings and law departments jointly worked out an arrangement in which MRMD would pay outstanding penalties totaling $868,325. While MRMD was still paying down the initial fines it had racked up an additional $600,000 in penalties. In addition, MRMD allegedly continued to allow serious safety violations at all its worksites after agreeing in November to properly supervise all its construction sites.

Construction is being halted at all the company's sites. MRMD has filed its own formal complaint against the department for unfair treatment.
