Contractor Ordered to Pay $3M to Fix Leaks at Newly Opened Hudson Yards Train Station

New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority is requiring Yonkers Contracting pay another contractor to fix the waterproofing problems it could not fix back in 2012

Yonkers Contracting Company has been ordered to pay another contractor $3 million to fix waterproofing leaks at the recently opened Hudson Yards 7 train station in New York. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) hired Yonkers Contracting in 2010 to complete waterproofing, excavating and mining work at the train station, but the station has been plagued with leaks and mold growth since opening in September 2015.

Yonkers Contracting tried to fix the waterproofing problems back in 2012, but the repairs (and following repairs) proved only temporary.

Now MTA has hired Sovereign Hydroseal to fix the leakage problems and is ordering Yonkers Contracting pay the nearly $3 million for the new contractor's work. In addition, Yonkers Contracting will be required to clean and replace tiles affected by the leaks.

A spokeswoman for Yonkers Contracting said the work under question was performed by a subcontractor and that the company is working with the MTA to resolve the issues.
