Vermeer, Interlune Expand Partnership to Develop Lunar Construction Equipment

Vermeer Corp. and space infrastructure company Interlune are expanding their partnership to develop equipment and infrastructure designed to support future construction and resource extraction on the Moon.

The collaboration builds on a joint development agreement that produced a full-scale prototype of Interlune's lunar excavator, unveiled in 2025. The companies will now focus on developing autonomous excavation and site-preparation technology for future lunar missions.

According to the companies, the partnership combines Vermeer's experience designing and manufacturing heavy equipment with Interlune's expertise in space systems, robotics and lunar environments. The work will focus on civil engineering concepts and infrastructure needed to support long-term operations on the Moon.

The companies plan to develop, test and deliver a mission-ready lunar site-preparation tool by 2028. The equipment is expected to be integrated with a lunar rover and tested on Earth before a demonstration mission on the Moon.

The project aligns with NASA's long-term Moon Base plans and is intended to support future lunar construction, surface stabilization and resource extraction.
