Volvo Group and Daimler Truck have officially launched Coretura AB, a joint venture focused on developing a standardized software-defined vehicle platform for the commercial vehicle industry. The new company, based in Gothenburg, Sweden, aims to support future digital applications across trucks and buses by separating core software infrastructure from brand-specific features.
The venture follows binding agreements signed in October 2024 and has now received all necessary regulatory approvals. Coretura began operations in early June 2025.
Focused on a Shared Digital Infrastructure
Coretura’s mission is to create a unified, open software platform and operating system tailored for commercial vehicles. The system is intended to streamline the development of digital services by decoupling hardware and software development cycles. This would allow vehicle manufacturers to offer over-the-air updates and applications more efficiently — potentially improving vehicle safety, operational efficiency and user experience.
The initiative reflects broader shifts in the commercial vehicle industry, where digitalization is becoming increasingly central to product development and fleet operations.
Collaboration Without Competition
While Volvo Group and Daimler Truck will both use Coretura’s platform, each company will continue to compete in the marketplace and offer their own differentiated digital services and products. The venture is structured to support shared infrastructure while allowing customization on top of that base.
Coretura is also open to collaboration with other suppliers and partners, aiming to bring together contributors across the value chain who are interested in helping shape the industry’s digital transformation.
