Terex Utilities recently introduced customers to a new concept in aerial work platform equipment. Featuring a low-voltage, insulated boom tip, the Genie Z-45 articulated boom is specially equipped for work in power substations. The concept design was shown to customers at the 2018 Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference and at the 2017 International Construction and Utility Equipment Expo.

“It is the latest example of listening to our customers and responding with a solution that can provide the access and application requirements for substation maintenance and repairs,” said Joe Caywood, director of marketing.

Substation work environments are often congested. The articulating boom design provides up-and-over capabilities to improve flexibility when positioning the platform. The self-propelled Genie Z-45 has a maximum up and over clearance of 23’8” and a maximum working height of 51’6”. The insulated boom tip supports safe work practices in this environment.

“The substation project is another example of engaging and listening to customers upfront and keeping them involved throughout the development process. By introducing customers to this product early while it is still in the concept stage we can get more feedback and make sure the product meets the application requirements. We continue to get more interest and positive feedback and plan to have this product available to the market in the future,” said Caywood.
