Genie has completely redesigned its 44-ft., 8,000-lb. capacity telehandler, displaying a prototype of its new GTH-844B at the Rental Show in New Orleans this week. It will eventually replace the GTH-844, and is expected to go into production in November.

Far from being a Tier 4 Interim repower warmover, the GTH-844B is a new machine, with a change in engine position from center-rear mount to right-side mount, a new operator’s station with tilt steering wheel, new Carrerra axles narrow the stance to 96 ins. and reduce the turning radius by two feet and a new proportional hydraulic system that delivers more than double the hydraulic flow (up to 15 gpm) on demand. Engine options include Perkins or Deutz, with a catalytic emissions solution that eliminates the need to regenerate exhaust filters.

Mid-mounting the engine not only improved the operator's view to the rear wheels, but lowered the telehandler's center of gravity and put all of the regular-service points, and most major wear items, where they can be accessed from ground level.
