By 2030, the United Nations wants to accomplish three extraordinary things: end poverty, combat climate change and fight injustice and inequality. The UN also has a blueprint to achieve that vision. The plan is called UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – 17 global goals to make our world more prosperous, inclusive, sustainable and resilient.
In a report, the United Nations recognized three of Caterpillar’s key initiatives as examples of private sector organizations that are driving action toward the goals. Recognizing that opportunities for impact vary by industry, the UN Global Compact worked with global consulting firm KPMG to highlight industry specific ideas and practical examples for each of the 17 SDGs.
In the Industrial Manufacturing industry category, three Caterpillar initiatives were profiled, including:
- Cat Hybrid Microgrid Solutions (SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy)
- Reducing Worksite Emissions (SDG 13 – Climate Action)
- Caterpillar’s Restoring Natural Infrastructure Initiative (SDG 15 – Life on Land)
