Recipients of the 2018 Excellence in Energy Efficient Design Awards were announced at the 2018 American Institute of Architects Iowa Convention in Des Moines, Iowa. The Excellence in Energy Efficient Design Award program recognizes outstanding efforts in reducing energy use. Candidates are selected from projects whose designers participated in the Commercial New Construction program offered by Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company. Projects must have been completed between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018.
The Commercial New Construction program provides energy design assistance and energy-efficiency incentives to commercial customers for new construction, additions and renovation projects located in areas served by the three utilities.
The Commercial New Construction program recognizes the following companies:
- OPN Architects and Design Engineers for the Johnson County Ambulance Service and Medical Examiner Facility, achieving a 64 percent annual kBTU savings.
- OPN Architects and Design Engineers for the Marion ISD Longfellow Elementary School, achieving a 62 percent annual kBTU savings.
- Shive-Hattery Architecture + Engineering for the Clear Creek Amana CSD High School Expansion, achieving a 59 percent annual kBTU savings.
- Roseland Mackey Harris and Brewer Engineering Consultants for the Ames Fitness Center, achieving a 59 percent annual kBTU savings.
- OPN Architects and Design Engineers for the Iowa City CSD Hoover Elementary School, achieving a 56 percent annual kBTU savings.
- SVPA Architects and Design Engineers for the Iowa City CSD Liberty High School, achieving a 51 percent annual kBTU savings.
- DLR Group and Farris Engineering for the Bishop Heelan Catholic High School Academic Wing, achieving a 51 percent annual kBTU savings.
- Shive-Hattery Architecture + Engineering for the Cedar Rapids CSD Grant Elementary Renovation, achieving a 50 percent annual kBTU savings.
- Kueny Architects, Southport Engineered Systems and Root Engineering Services for the City of Dubuque Jule Operations and Training Center, achieving a 49 percent annual kBTU savings.
- GTG Companies and Baker Group for the Baker Group Headquarters, achieving a 42 percent annual kBTU savings.
