CASE Builds Metallica CTL

The custom design, which was inspired by one of James Hetfield's tattoos and signature Snakebyte electric guitar, as well as Metallica's graphics and album artwork, was displayed on Dec. 13 at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, Calif.

CASE has created another custom wrap for its compact track loaders (CTLs). This wrap in particular was a one-off for Metallica musician James Hetfield.

The special-edition CTL was on display at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, Calif. at the Helping Hands charity concert. Held on Dec. 13, this annual event is organized by the rock band Metallica’s All Within My Hands charitable foundation.

The CTL will be used at the ranch of Hetfield, who commissioned the design.

Built at the CASE production facility in Wichita, Kan., the TV450B compact track loader performs tasks such as digging, loading and dumping in commercial and residential construction activities as well as landscaping.

The CASE/CNH design team suggested designs based on Hetfield’s career and persona.

  • The winning proposal was submitted by John Piper, a design talent at CNH. Piper crafted a concept that recalled one of Hetfield’s tattoos, a skull with wings, together with the iconic font reminiscent of the band’s graphics and album artwork. He also drew from the pinstriping in Hetfield’s private hotrod collection. All these elements were integrated atop a sandy camouflage pattern reminiscent of Hetfield’s signature Snakebyte electric guitar, a direct request from the artist.
  • CNH Senior Designer Darin Weisensel led the production phase of this project, working to bring the custom design to life on the CASE TV450B.
