Denver Grand Jury Returns 70-Count Indictment against Construction Firm Owner

Indictment alleges that the contractor used money intended to pay subcontractors for his personal benefit

A Denver grand jury has returned a 70-count indictment against a construction company owner accused of stealing from Denver property owners and subcontractors.

Roddy Reef, 56, of R2 Construction Co. is charged in the indictment with violating the Colorado Crime Control Act, 64 counts of theft and five counts of forgery, the office of Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey announced.

The indictment alleges that Reef engaged in a pattern of racketeering. It alleges that project owners hired R2 Construction for construction and remodeling work. The owners paid Reef, who was designated to pay the subcontractors, the indictment alleges. Instead of paying the subcontractors, Reef allegedly used the money for his personal benefit, the indictment states.

There are more than 50 victims within the city and county of Denver that have been identified so far who lost about $474,000 over a span of a year, Morrissey's office said.
