AGC's Green Construction Plan

The Associated General Contractors of America recently unveiled its green construction plan entitled "Building a Green Future." According to the plan the nation's buildings and infrastructure will become more efficient, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and cutting energy consumption. Measures in the plan include:

  • Doubling existing energy efficiency tax credits for commercial buildings
  • Passing the Building Star program that invests $6 billion in improving the efficiency of commercial buildings this year
  • Speeding reviews and boosting local tax credits for green building projects
  • Making the level of transportation investments virtually every expert agrees are needed to improve capacity and reduce traffic
  • Faster approval for new sustainable forms of power generation
But what may be the most important to contractors is that adoption of the plan would provide new opportunities for the nation's hard-hit construction firms. To discuss the green construction plan and it's possible impact on the construction industry, Brian Turmail of the AGC joins the Construction Business Podcast.
