The Elastocolor product line of wall coatings is the latest extension to MAPEI’s Concrete Restoration Systems (CRS) category. Ideally suited for the concrete restoration and waterproofing market, Elastocolor Flex, Elastocolor Coat and Elastocolor Paint provide decorative and protective finishes for vertical, above-grade building facades and structures.
The Elastocolor range of high-performance wall coatings consists of professional, ready-to-use, water-based, 100%-acrylic coating technology for use on above-grade exterior/interior concrete, masonry, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, and exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS).
MAPEI is committed to providing its customers with superior product performance; consequently, the Elastocolor line offers more test credentials than any other coating in this category. Each coating has been subjected to an array of ASTM tests that have then been validated by an independent test laboratory. Notably, on the ASTM D6695 Xenon Arc Exposure test, all of the coatings have surpassed 10,000 hours.
Elastocolor Flex is an elastomeric waterproof coating that exhibits exceptional elongation across a broad temperature range. The integrity of the coating is maintained even over dynamic cracks in the substrate due to the product’s superior crack-bridging properties. Elastocolor Flex is available in smooth and fine textures for better blending options on repair areas.
Elastocolor Coat is a high-build coating that offers excellent abrasion resistance. It provides long- term protection against severe weather conditions as well as the harmful effects of chlorides, carbon dioxide, etc., while remaining breathable. It is also available in smooth and fine textures.
Elastocolor Paint is formulated for jobsites where more economical coatings may be required. It offers good coverage rates and hiding power for recoating projects. Elastocolor Paint is available in standard colors and custom colors.
Elastocolor Primer WB, an additional product in the line, is a fast-drying, clear sealer that promotes adhesion on porous, dusting and new substrates as needed.
These product offerings enable building owners to make the right performance decision, based on specific conditions that they encounter on their projects.
The usefulness of the Elastocolor range is typified by an ongoing project in Miami, Florida. Due to the proximity of the Blue Lagoon Condominiums to the Blue Lagoon Lake and to Miami International Airport, the effects of carbon dioxide, airborne pollutants and salt-laden air can be extremely aggressive on the 320,000 square feet (29 729 m2) of building facade. Elastocolor Coat is an effective barrier against carbon dioxide, chlorides and wind-driven rain. This attribute, plus hiding power and breathability, made Elastocolor Coat the ideal choice for protecting the exterior facade of the buildings. MAPEI custom matched the new color scheme in off-white, blue and gray to provide a fresh, crisp ambiance to the condos.
