Fleetio has released its 2026 Fleet Benchmark Report & State of Fleet Management, analyzing data from 1.2 million vehicles and feedback from more than 600 fleet professionals.
The report aggregates 17.5 billion miles of vehicle data, $7 billion in service spend and 9 million work orders to examine cost trends, maintenance performance and technology adoption.
Among the top concerns cited by respondents were rising costs (54.4%), regulatory pressures (46.1%), electric vehicle transition challenges (35.1%) and technician shortages (32.5%).
The report found that vehicles older than 10 years account for about 12% of miles driven but more than 33% of total service spending. Estimated maintenance costs rise from $0.20 per mile for vehicles up to five years old to $1.10 per mile for vehicles more than 10 years old.
Artificial intelligence adoption remains limited. While more than half of respondents said they are researching or piloting AI tools, fewer than 6% reported broad implementation. Accuracy and reliability concerns were the most cited barrier.
Maintenance delays were also highlighted. Median time to start a work order was 31 minutes, but the average reached 6.7 days, contributing to downtime. Fewer than 10% of fleets reported consistent on-time maintenance performance.
