Kawasaki says its entry in the hybrid market -- the 65ZV-2 HYTCs that converts torque converter heat to electrical energy -- reduces fuel consumption by 35% compared to a conventional 65ZV-2. The HYTCs (Hybrid Torque Converter System) stores electrical energy in a capacitor that can charge and discharge energy more instantaneously than a conventional battery. An electric motor parallel to the torque converter uses stored energy on takeoff and hard efforts to assist the engine, so a smaller engine can do the same work. The HYTCs also regenerates the capacitor during engine idling and braking.
