Makita has released the 40V max XGT Shear Wrench (GTW01) for construction applications related to steel building frames, cell phone towers and bridges.
"This new XGT Cordless Shear Wrench is truly going to be a gamechanger in the industry. It gives the Steel Erector a cordless option that takes corded tools out of the jobsite,” said Rufus Richardson, senior product manager for commercial products, Makita U.S.A., Inc. “The Shear Wrench offers up to 14% faster fastening speed than corded and is 3.5 lbs. lighter than our current LXT unit. Makita has kept their promise to take cords and gas cans off the jobsite and will continue to expand the XGT platform to continue that quest into the future."
The 40V max XGT Shear Wrench (GTW01) is a cordless fastening solution with 593 ft. lbs. of maximum fastening torque. It’s powered by one 40V Max XGT battery and a brushless motor for fastening performance without the cord.
The Shear Wrench delivers up to 250 M22 tightened torque control bolts per charge using one fully charged XGT 4.0Ah Battery (battery and charger included in the kit model). The design of the new GTW01 weighs up to 3.5 lbs. less than the previous LXT model. The GTW01 features an electric brake which allows the tool to be repositioned. It features a bolt tip ejecting lever located by the power switch for tip disposal. The Shear Wrench also features a metal gear housing for durability.

Other features include an LED battery charge indicator that alerts users of drained battery power, a shoulder strap hook for portability and a power switch with a trigger-lock button that helps prevent accidental start-ups. The GTW01 has an ergonomic "D-shaped" handle with a trigger power switch. The weight of the Shear Wrench is only 12.1 lbs. with a battery.
