The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has appointed Sheronda L. Carr as its new chief executive officer, effective July 7, 2025. Carr, an experienced association executive, takes the helm of the organization focused on workforce development and advocacy for women in the construction industry.

Carr succeeds Interim Executive Director Velma Hart, who has led the organization since February 2025.

“With her expertise in our sector, along with her proven track record in membership, and revenue generation, she will provide visionary leadership to our association and serve NAWIC’s members well,” said Kelly Aust, 2024-2025 NAWIC president.

In a statement, Carr said she looks forward to collaborating with the board, members and industry partners to expand resources, promote safer work environments and elevate women in the sector. She emphasized that NAWIC’s work is “essential to the construction industry’s continued growth and resilience.”

Carr brings significant leadership experience from related industries. She most recently served as the vice president of membership for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Prior to that, she spent 16 years at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), where her roles included serving as executive director of the NAHB Professional Women in Building Council.

She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Strayer University and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Bowie State University.
