Fifty years ago, American Rental Association founders planned their first convention. Their vision: to bring the rental industry together and move it forward by helping individual stores achieve their business goals. Today, The Rental Show is the largest rental trade show in the world, bringing together more than 11,000 attendees and exhibitor personnel.

The 50th Anniversary celebration for ARA and The Rental Show, Feb. 6–9 in Orlando, will featuring special anniversary events, 700 exhibitors, expanded rental-specific seminars, a keynote session with Barbara Bush and much more.

“Dancing Through the Decades” will kick off the show on Feb. 6 at the Rosen Centre Hotel. Get ready to dance, celebrate and journey through the decades with the official launch of the 50th Anniversary celebration. A disc jockey spinning the greatest hits from 1955 to the present and food to fit the decades theme will set the mood, while a special anniversary cake and champagne toast will honor ARA’s historic milestone. Attendees are encouraged to dress in appropriate attire from their favorite decade.

On Feb. 8, “Rock, Roll and Rent” will celebrate in true 1950s sock-hop style at the World ShowPlace Pavilion at Epcot. The event will feature Disney’s special touch with music for dancing and listening, entertainment, a reception-style dinner and added attractions — plus the opportunity to view the nighttime spectacular “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” pyrotechnics show. Cost is $35 per person (5 and under are free).

Construction U — an educational program Feb. 4–5 for those in general tool and construction rental — takes a new approach for 2006 to benefit your rental operation with more seminar choices and networking opportunities. The streamlined new name, “Construction U,” represents the mission of the program: light and heavy construction rental-focused education designed to benefit YOU and your business operation.

An opening session with Preston Bailey, a behind-the-scenes tour of Walt Disney World Resort and a closing party featuring the biggest football game of the year highlight a new, improved Events & Tents schedule of 20 event rental seminars shaped by 2005 attendee feedback. It’s designed specifically for those in special event and party rental.

Every year, The Rental Show offers a full day of rental-specific educational sessions plus additional learning opportunities during the trade show — all included with the full registration fee. This year, there will be a new interactive segment on Wednesday. Four new sessions will bring rental professionals together to discuss their perspectives on business issues. Opportunities include a women’s panel and a risk management discussion. Two REAP advisor panels also will lead town-hall-style discussions (one for the party and event market segment and one for the general tool and construction and industrial segment).

In addition to the education opportunities and special anniversary events, The Rental Show will offer many products on display by hundreds of exhibitors at the Orange County Convention Center (North/South Building). Take a look at the following pages for a sample of what you can expect find on the trade show floor.
