Sunbelt Rentals was awarded the 2024 Supported Scaffold Project of the Year Award by the Scaffold and Access Industry Association (SAIA) for its efforts involved with the Sunbelt Rentals Freedom Tower Access Project. The company was tasked with providing full access for the exterior restoration of the nearly 100-year-old Freedom Tower in Miami. This historic landmark required a complex and multifaceted scaffold design to meet stringent safety and access requirements for restoration. The project presented numerous challenges, including a narrowing building structure, architectural constraints, space limitations, and severe weather. Despite these challenges, the project was completed on time. Thornton Construction Company Inc. was the contractor completing the restoration.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from SAIA,” says Jacco Kappers, senior vice president of Scaffold Services at Sunbelt Rentals. "The Freedom Tower project exemplifies the expertise, precision, and dedication Sunbelt Rentals brings to every project it supports. We are proud of the safe and efficient solution we provided that contributed to the restoration of this historic landmark."
As reported in the release, Sunbelt Rentals devised a synchronized solution that involved both supported and suspended scaffolding. A 100-ft. supported scaffold was installed from the 14th floor to the top dome, spanning 40 ft. on each side.
