While the oil boom in western North Dakota has had an economic impact across the state, one Jamestown business has uniquely profited from the influx of oil workers.

Duane Barth, owner of The Rental Store in Jamestown grew up in western North Dakota in the small town of Hebron. Now, the portable toilets his company rents and maintains are spread all over the Oil Patch and have become a major portion of the company’s business.

“We’ve got a full line of rental equipment, but our portable toilet business is our biggest growth area and the biggest part of our total sales,” Barth said. “… Wherever there’s a construction site, a house being built — anything you could think of — a wedding, family reunion, anyplace where there’s a restroom required we bring them. We set them all up and as they need cleaning, we clean them.”
