HIPOWER SYSTEMS, a manufacturer of power generation and power distribution equipment in the U.S. and Canada, announced it has delivered a fleet of 1.2MW portable diesel generators to Ontario-based GAL Power for use in its rental division. The diesel generators, which GAL Power purchased for rental during the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, were custom engineered and manufactured to fit the most achievable functionality into the smallest possible space.
“We were involved in the design phase with the HIPOWER SYSTEMS engineering group, and they worked hard to get everything we wanted into a compact unit,” said GAL Power National Rental Director Martin Lopes. “In addition, the price, terms and conditions were good. The whole package was something that they put together for a good value.”
Requirements provided by GAL Power for the custom units included easy access to the fuel tank and the control panel, as well as the ability to quickly and easily synchronize two or more units together in a parallel configuration for more efficient load distribution and power redundancy.
Additionally, HIPOWER SYSTEMS’ engineers shaved the container length by 25%, from 40 to 30 feet, even with the addition of a fuel tank mounted at the front of the unit. The units also meet Canadian standards for transport and Canadian Standards Association and Transport Canada fuel regulations.
Lopes reports that GAL Power has purchased all of its last 30 rental generators from HIPOWER SYSTEMS because the firm is very pleased with the generators and with HIPOWER SYSTEMS itself. “They have been a very good partner of ours,” said Lopes. Their standby generators sell well in the Ontario market, and their knowledge in the rental department is extensive. It’s also a great benefit that they really listen to what we want.”
