[VIDEO] Ford Adds a High-tech Butt to its Stable of Robots

Robutt accelerates Ford’s seat-testing regimen

Robots have taken on auto-industry duties from warehousing and assembly to safety testing. Now Ford has started using one to test seats.

The high-tech butt, referred to as Robutt, is packed with sensors and mounted on an arm that lets it enter a test vehicle.

To test a single seat design, Ford will have Robutt sit down and get up around 25,000 times. According to Ford, that’s around ten years’ worth of action, and it all happens in just three weeks.
