Four Contractors Fined After Partial Bridge Collapse Kills Family Driving Below

The prime contractor, demolition contractor, concrete cutting contractor and a subcontractor fined $86,800 for violations

The state of Washington has fined four contractors involved in a partial bridge collapse that killed a family of three driving on the road below. The concrete cutting crew had made a cut at the edge of the bridge and a piece of concrete barrier 110 feet long feel. Flaggers had not been told to divert traffic yet. The fines total $86,800 among the four contractors.

The demolition company Staton Construction was fined a total of $58,800 for one willful and two serious violations. The concrete cutting company, Hamilton Construction, was fined $14,700. WHH Nisqually Federal Services, the prime contractor, was fined $8,400. Finally, Highmark Concrete Contractors, a subcontractor for WHH, was fined $4,900.

The contractors have 15 days to appeal.
